From 14 through 17 July of 2008, Utrecht University hosted the Second International Conference on the History of Quantum Physics, HQ2, and this issue of SHPMP contains a selection of the lectures given there. These papers represent some of the strongest scholarship available today in history of modern physics: they are in tune with recent historiographical practices and perspectives, technically competent and informed about current debates in the philosophy and physics communities. The latter may be particularly exemplified by the work presented here on the history of research in the foundations of physics done in the 1970s and 80s, subjects that have come from the periphery of the physics literature into the mainstream---Olival Freire and Kristian Camilleri give insight in exactly these developments. After a long period dominated by the Copenhagen interpretation, in the 1970s interest in alternatives awakened, and, as these papers demonstrate, these have now become the subject of historical research.
