The first part of this chapter surveys the sanctuaries of the Greco-Roman deities who were traditionally thought of as presiding over illness and healing, while the second part discusses briefly the so-called anatomical votives found in healing sanctuaries and why some of these sanctuaries were thought of as specializing in specific kinds of illness.
