The Silk Road is the busiest transport route in the cultural exchange between the East and the West around the birth of Christ. The name was derived from the fact that commodities transported along this route were mostly silk. As an important route for cultural exchanges between the East and the West, the Silk Road contributed greatly to the progress of human civilization. Through this route, silk and other commodities were transported from the East to the coastal areas of the Mediterranean, while the textile technologies and products of Central Asia, West Asia, and Europe were absorbed and integrated by the East. This chapter points out that the textile technology had major influence on the world.
