The invention of paper has been a heated topic of debate in the study of the origin of China’s papermaking techniques. Through investigations, we found two different systems in China’s traditional papermaking techniques: pouring and lifting. What are the characteristics, origins, and geographical distributions of these two techniques? This chapter analyzes the concrete papermaking process based on materials from field investigations and carries out analysis and discussions using materials from archaeological excavations and written records.
