The history of Greek and Roman cooking and baking technology stretches back millennia to the earliest archaeological evidence of food preparation in the areas that would correspond to the worlds of Greece and Rome. This account traces through time the appearance and development of various technologies involved in the processes of cooking and baking. Ancient Greek and Roman cooking and baking techniques and technologies can be sketched through the marshaling of archaeological, scientific, textual, and visual evidence to produce a vivid picture of these processes basic to human existence in the ancient Mediterranean.
