In Swedish and Ideas history, reception studies has always been something of a specialty. Over the years it has been written lots of essays on how different philosophies, systems of thought or theories accepted in Sweden, from paracelsismen in the 1500s, Cartesianism and natural law in the 1600's to Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis during the 1900s. Representatives of other disciplines are supplemented by studies on the Swedish reception of Henri Bergson, phenomenology and existentialism. This list could be much longer, but even from that list, it is clear that this year's theme blocks in Lychnos linked to an established tradition. The reception history discussed in the following, however, are less well researched. It is about the modern theory of reception, namely how different theories perceived, received and transformed in Sweden in recent decades, from about 1960 onwards. The main focus is on the reception that took place within the university system, and in particular it is the positive, affirming theory imports under investigation, but several of the contributors have also had reason to pay attention more or less negative and dismissive reactions. Even silence and absence of an explicit reception can be a form of reception.
